Crumb & Kiln Bakery

A brand identity for a neighbourhood bakery: logo lockups, palette, type pairing, and everyday applications.

Concept project created to show our approach; not a client engagement. The brand, and everything in it, is fictional.

The brief

Crumb & Kiln is a fictional neighbourhood bakery with a wood-fired oven. The brief: an identity that feels warm and handmade but stays clear on a phone screen, a one-colour bag stamp, and a shop sign.

What we made

  • A primary logo lockup and a compact mark
  • A five-colour palette with hex values
  • A type pairing for headings and body text
  • Applications: bag stamp, menu board, social avatar, and loyalty card

Approach

  1. Design for where the logo actually lives: a small social avatar, a one-colour stamp, and a shopfront.
  2. Build the mark from the arch of the oven, so it stays recognisable at small sizes.
  3. Take the colours from the product itself: ember, crust, and flour.
  4. Write short usage rules, so anyone on the team can apply the brand correctly.

Deliverables

  • Logo lockups: primary, mark, reversed
  • Colour palette
  • Type pairing
  • Usage rules

Usage rules

  • Keep clear space around the logo equal to the height of the arch.
  • Use the mark on its own below 32px, such as avatars and favicons.
  • Set body text in Charcoal on Flour for the strongest contrast.
  • Keep Ember for accents and large type, not long paragraphs.
  • Do not recolour, stretch, or outline the logo.

About concept projects

Concept projects are self-initiated. We create a fictional brand and brief, then do the work as we would for a client, so you can judge our approach before you hire us. The businesses, people, listings, and reviews in them are invented, and they carry no client results.
